Persevering Patients, Proactive Nurses, and Pivotal Progress

šŸ˜žLive. – Patient

This patient, and many others Iā€™ve seen lately were injured, and attempting to heal, during the pandemic.

I have written often about the practical value of having a legal nurse consultant present during DMEs/IMEs. As I have attended more of them, the opportunity and at times obligation, for me to intervene has increased – as has my insight into the complexities of the DME/IME interpersonal interactions.

See: PTSD and DMEs OR GiGis, LeeLees, DMEs, LNCs, and an ODE to JBJ,Ā OR Theresa M Drass on LinkedIn: I spoke to an attorney audience regarding the benefits of having an RNā€¦

Iā€™m learning more and more how the pandemic presented unique challenges for individuals seeking to heal from injuries while also navigating legal proceedings. The stress of illness, combined with the uncertainty of the legal system, can be overwhelming in ā€œnormalā€ times. As a legal nurse consultant Iā€™ve again witnessed firsthand how patients especially struggled to recover during this time, and are still having difficulties navigating the aftermath.Ā

My role in observing DMEs/IMEs has become increasingly crucial in supporting patients, doctors, and attorneys. By assessing and interpreting as only a nurse can, while providing expert insights and advocating for patients’ rights, I help to ensure that their needs are met and that their cases are handled efficiently and effectively in a way that meets the many unique needs each situation presents.

Proving that, ā€œIf we all did the things we are really capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.ā€ – Thomas Edison

Iā€™m also grateful and joyful to report that these most recent travel adventures for work have exposed me to the workplaces and works of Walt Whitman, Frida Kahlo, and Thomas Edison.

Thomas Edison who may be my 6th cousin 5x removed. I was shocked to hear at least two references to Mr. Edison, and then coincidentally had occasion to visit both West Orange and Edison NJ in a matter of a week.Ā E.g., Holmes: Did you know that American icon Thomas Edison used similar techniques to acquire many of his patents? He would invite young inventors to show him their creations, and then he would have his employees reverse-engineer their work and then patent the results. The real inventors wouldn’t see a penny.

Watson: I get it now.

Holmes: Yeah. The only thing Edison didn’t patent was patent-jacking.

These odysseys have not only been personally enriching in prompting me to maintain #worklifebalance, but have also kept me attuned to the true value of doing what you love, i.e., #passionwithpurpose. As Edison said, ā€œI never did a dayā€™s work in my life, it was all fun.ā€

Fortunately, I have been incredibly and positively, productively busy! Unfortunately, this means that I haven’t had as much time to engage on social media as I would like -and wonā€™t for the foreseeable future. If Iā€™m not responding as much or as quickly, itā€™s me, not youā€¦ and thank you for your understanding.
